IDEA  &  GOAL
The plan for the development and reconstruction of Bajardo was taken up in October 1999 by the mayor of Bajardo following the initiative of Bioliguria- EcoArchitettura, that proposed an integrated development making use of natural resources without substantial exploitation of new land.   The starting point for the study was the demographic situation, the community and its problems, so as to develop possible solutions on an economic basis. An international commission of experts with representatives from different fields was created.

Bioliguria-EcoArchittetura’s approach envisages a general concept for the village of Bajardo.
So on the one hand the historical centre will be reconstructed, on the other hand the village will be made as autonomous as possible in its infrastructures, facilities and its provisioning and disposal.
.

Our goals
The goal is to make the development of Bajardo into a model to be imitated and refined in the next decade by the surrounding villages, so as to work against the destruction of the Maritime Alps’ millennium-old tradition

To do this the following points are planned:

  • Maintenance of the historical village structure (Nucleo) and  restoration/reconstruction of the same
  • Energy supply: solar power, biomass, fuel cell.
  • Disposal: biological purification plant with secondary sedimentation
  • Supplies: local drinking water supply, collecting and processing of local wild products (mushrooms, blackcurrants, redcurrants, berries, strawberries, herbs, etc.) and regional  produce (olives, wine, cheese, fruit, vegetables ) by means of local companies and people.  (Rural - Market), organic cultivation, reforestation/forestry.
  • Medical care: clinic, thermal water (thermal baths in Pigna)
  • Education: historical jobs ('Antichi Mestieri'), 'EcoArchitettura' (ecological architecture) vocational training, seminars on the “Bajardo model”, Campus (Summer Environment School)
  • Work: independent offices, studios (artists, painters, sculptors, Antichi Mestieri), gastronomy
  • Living: homes, elderly home, holiday homes
  • Low-impact tourism: lodging houses for hotels, pensions, restaurants with good and healthy food, festivals
  • Leisure activities: nature, sports, culture, etc.
  • Other events: conferences, Mountain Village Year
Mobility: environmentally compatible infrastructures (paths for walking, riding and bicycling) A 5,5 km road on a panoramic route to Sanromolo (motorway connection).
