The
centre of druid wisdom in the first millennium b.C. was not located in
Bajardo casually.
Of
course, times have changed. Houses have satellite TV and videorecorders.
Where loaded donkeys used to climb up the winding paths, the "Bee"
(Ape in Italian, a three-wheeler) now buzzes. And yet we still meet people
and landscapes of fascinating authenticity. As if time in this 300-soul-
village had, if not stopped, than in any case stepped on the brakes.
Century-old customs and traditions are still alive here, basic values
such as trust and hospitality are still around. Keys hang from the outside
of front doors. Everyone knows everyone else, and strangers are met with the
old Roman greeting "Salve!". These historical settlements are now
a starting point for rediscovered forms of living, based on friendly
relationships and free from any kind of pressure.
The
peaks and valleys of the bordering Maritime Alps are known as
Liguria's garden of Eden. A paradise on which the southern sun shines:
luxuriant, brightly coloured vegetation under the sky's intensive cobalt
blue. Torrents of glassy-clear water have cut their way into the rocks,
hidden in the thick woods from the jagged background of the Maritime Alps,
that rise over 2000 m above sea level.
Prehistoric caves tell dramatic tales of bears and other inhabitants.
History
here, combining harmoniously with nature, has created the ideal environment
for creative people.
Dinamic
technical development creates more and more new jobs, such as, for instance
Telework
The
teleworker, as an enterprising and creative person, will find in the future
tele-village of Bajardo, a place at once technologically advanced with a
great cybervision, but where history, culture and tradition are not
forgotten. In the
reconstruction of houses and streets authenticity is strictly observed. In
bio-architechture only materials such as slate, stone, wood, terracotta,
etc., are used. Each house will recover, after year-long studies, its
original identity. High-tech quality will be of foremost importance in the
technologicization. Bajardo will receive a highly technological core, the
historical buildings will be fully cabled with optical fibres and connected
to the whole world. Apartments will have direct Internet connection. The
historical village centre will have its own telephone network, Intranet and
satellite TV. Voice-mail and teleconferences are standard, and future
technological instruments such as video by telephone or interactive TV may
be used here as soon as they are available.
Bajardo
offers to creative people who wish to move here, a place to live and to work.
The regional government and the EU have prepared special supporting
programmes. The village and its inhabitants offer welcome
to people wishing to make this their home, and the place, which is in
any case connected to the rest of the world, offers a high quality of life.

Bajardo is still full of sparkling Italian life.
Children chatter in the streets, elderly people sit outside their
houses or meet at Massimo's cafe. This extremely real place in Italy must
keep on living, as a place of wisdom, of culture and of creativity.
