It was a love of nature that lead an English family to create a botanical garden near Ventimiglia, beginning in 1867, in order to acclimatize plants from many different climatic zones of the world which would benefit from the favourable position and in particular the mild climate of what was to become the Hanbury Botanical Gardens.
Travelling to Bajardo by Car, Air, Train & Bus.
Bajardo is located in the wonderful Italian region of Liguria – in the province of Imperia.
Nestled, but not out of the way, since a half-an-hour drive takes you to the coastal town of San Remo and the sea. But even Monaco, Nice or Genoa are easily reached.
Every Whitsun sees the historical ‘Ra Barca’ festival taking place in Bajardo, which, with it’s flamboyant costumes, live music and presentation of local products, has become a tourist attraction.
For this occasion, a c. 80 feet (24m) high forest pine is felled.
